Where money is the law a teacher has no rights
Why are there more girls than boys at the Comenius University Teaching faculty? In my opinion this is a question of money. In our society system the man is still the breadwinner and the woman takes care of the children, so it is more likely that a woman has a job that is not so well paid.
So is it the small payment? Of course. And I think it is the reputation of the profession of a teacher, too. I mean, why should men study for something that has such a low ranking in the society, something that is so under valuated? Why should they study something that is the object of so many jokes? I know what I’m talking about. My mother was a teacher, my father is a teacher. I never want to be a teacher because I know what it means. I know how it is to save every cent; I know how it is to take all the looks of the people.
So….why? Maybe because as a teacher you not really get the respect you deserve. In a world where money rules it is a little difficult to have respect for someone whose pay after two university diplomas and thirty years of professional career is smaller that that of a dustman. As a teacher you should be an authority, you should have genuine respect but this aspect is often missing in the classes these days. Maybe the boys don’t want to get stressed with this because they can’t handle it against the girls which can deal with it better because a woman tries to act more friendly so the children trust her more.
